Metacognition Education
Metacognition refers to the awareness and understanding of one's own thought processes and cognitive abilities. It involves the ability to step back and observe one's thoughts from a more objective standpoint, without getting entangled or overwhelmed by them. In essence metacognition is 'thinking about thinking'. By engaging in metacognition, individuals can create distance from their thoughts, allowing them to view their mental processes more dispassionately. This distance helps reduce emotional reactivity and cognitive fusion, enabling clients to recognize that thoughts are transient mental events and not necessarily accurate reflections of reality. These 3 worksheets explain the concept of metacognition, how it relates to mindfulness, and how we can track the use of this habit.
