5 Rs of Self-Regulation


When we are feeling overwhelmed by stress or big emotions, it can be difficult to remember to use our coping skills. Sometimes we might need a reminder to use the self-regulation skills we have learned over time. These 5 steps can bring us back to the moment so that we can best respond to any situation.


The 5 R’s is a helpful model for understanding and going through the regulation and reflection process and guides us from identifying the signs of dysregulation, to using regulation skills, to responding appropriately to stressful events.
